Partagas Petit Bouquets:
Part One: Getting to know the Partagás brand – the beating heart of classic Havana
1. The birth of a Cuban legend
In the heart of Havana, the capital of Cuba, one of the most well-known and oldest cigar factories in the world was born in 1845:
Fábrica de Tabacos Partagás.
The founder of the brand was Don Jaime Partagás y Ravell, an entrepreneur and pioneer originally from Catalonia, Spain, who entered the world of tobacco and cigars with a big dream.
Don Jaime
Before founding his brand, he worked for many years as a tobacco plantation manager in the Vuelta Abajo region — which produces the best tobacco in Cuba. This deep experience gave him an exceptional understanding of tobacco, fermentation, curing and rolling. From the beginning, he focused on producing cigars with a strong character, a rich aroma and a complex structure; characteristics that would later become the signature of the Partagás brand.
2. The Partagás Building: More than a Factory
The main Partagás factory building, located at 520 Industria Street, just a few steps from the Capitolio building, has become one of Havana’s tourist attractions to this day. Built in the 19th century, the factory not only produced millions of high-quality cigars, but also became a cultural center for cigar smokers.
One of Don Jaime’s interesting innovations was the employment of a “Lector de tabaquería” — a person who would read aloud from newspapers, novels, or poems to the cigarette rollers. This cultural tradition, which was later adopted by other factories, boosted the morale of the workers and their cultural development, and even inspired social revolutions in Cuba.
3. Ownership and developments after the founder’s death
After the mysterious assassination of Don Jaime in 1868 (the details of which are still debated by historians), the brand passed to his son José Partagás and was later passed on to other families, including Cifuentes, Fernandez y Cía. This group took the brand to international levels by investing in technology and packaging.
In the following decades, Partagás became a mainstay of Cuban exports. In the 1950s, before Fidel Castro’s revolution, the brand was sold in more than 20 countries, and was particularly popular in Spain, France, and England.
4. Nationalization of the Cuban Cigar Industry
With the victory of the Cuban Revolution in 1959 and the rise of Fidel Castro’s government, many private industries were nationalized. The Partagás factory also became state-owned in 1960. The brand continued to operate, but this time under the supervision of the state-owned entity Cubatabaco and then, since the 1990s, with Habanos S.A., the government’s foreign partner for the global sale of Cuban cigars.
Although some members of the Partagás family went into exile after the revolution and registered versions of the brand outside Cuba (such as in the Dominican Republic), the Cuban version – which remained under state supervision – remains the most prestigious and well-known. The brand’s cigars, including the Lusitania, Serie D No.4 and of course the Petit Bouquets, remain some of the best-selling and most popular Cuban cigars in the world.
Part 2: Partagás Petit Bouquets – Havana’s Lost Gem
1. The Birth of a Special Cigar in the Great Partagás Family
The Partagás Petit Bouquets is a rare and special edition of this classic brand that was once part of the standard line of Habanos S.A. This small but powerful cigar reflects the Partagás flavor DNA in a compact form; suitable for a limited time but with an unparalleled quality.
Petit Bouquets
Despite its small size, it has a big personality. This vitola was designed for those looking for a quick but deep experience of the heavy, earthy and peppery profile of Partagás without having to go to the larger cigars like the Lusitania.

Partagás Petit Bouquets
It was usually offered in simple wooden boxes (Slide Lid Box or SLB) that held 25 cigars. Unlike lacquered or decorative packaging such as Humidor, these boxes were designed for everyday use and conveyed a sense of Cuban tradition and authenticity.
The Partagás red label with gold font and a royal crown design – reminiscent of the Spanish royal charter granted to the brand – was embossed on each box, giving it a sense of dignity and class.
4. Flavor Character: Pepper, Leather, Earth
In flavor analysis, Petit Bouquets are often described as a more concentrated and robust version of other Partagás cigars. B
