FONSECA COSACOS Cuban Cigars
A classic Cuban cigar with a long and rich history.
Created by
Don Francisco E. Fonseca
who was born in Manzanillo, Cuba in 1868. He founded his cigar factory and brand in Havana in 1892 and registered the Fonseca name in 1907. He pioneered the packaging of cigars. Each cigar was individually wrapped in a tissue paper to protect it from moisture and damage.
Don Francisco was also a successful businessman and an American citizen. He moved to New York with his wife Teresa, where he also set up a factory. He would travel to Cuba to oversee his production and select the best tobacco. He died of a heart attack in Havana in 1929.
He merged the brand with two other companies to form:
Castañeda, Montero, Fonseca SA
.
The Fonseca Cosacos cigar is one of the few Cuban cigars still wrapped in a silk paper wrapper, a tradition that dates back to the time of its founder. It is a Corona format cigar measuring 5 3/8 inches long and 42 gauge. It features a light and smooth blend of filler and binder tobaccos from the Vuelta Abajo region, considered the best tobacco growing region in Cuba. The wrapper is a light brown leaf grown in the shade that gives the cigar a clean appearance.
