Cohiba Siglo V Cigar
The Cohiba Siglo V offers an unparalleled range of chocolate, floral and earthy flavors in a medium body. Over the past 30 years, this 170mm, 43-gauge Lonsdale cigar has become the most famous cigar in the Cuban Lonsdale format.
COHIBA Siglo V Review
The Siglo series was introduced in 1992 to commemorate Christopher Columbus’ discovery of the Americas and currently consists of six different types. The Siglo V has been in continuous production for almost 30 years.
At a generous 170mm (6.6in) in length and a 43 ring gauge, the Siglo V is significantly larger than most of the other types in the series. Like all Habanos, its tobacco is sourced entirely from Cuba and rolled locally, with various stages of the manufacturing process taking place at several Habanos, S.A. facilities.
The Siglo V is full of unique flavors created by the extensive tobacco fermentation process. From the filler to the cap and wrapper, the makers use a variety of tobaccos in the blend. This makes the Siglo V appealing to almost all cigar enthusiasts. This cigar is not only extraordinary or innovative, but it is also surprisingly smooth and durable.
Cohiba Siglo V Cigar Build and Appearance
The Siglo V is a size known as a Lonsdale, falling somewhere between a Grand Corona and a Churchill. This cigar can be smoked for over an hour, but it will not last as long as some of Cohiba’s larger cigars. The tobacco is intentionally packed in a way that it smokes a little hard and allows the cigar to burn slowly.
The wrapper is a medium brown with fine veins throughout. Its thickness to length ratio makes it feel pleasant in the hand without being too light or heavy.
Cohiba Siglo V Cigar Flavor
Like other Siglos, the Siglo V Cuban Cigar has pleasantly sweet undertones including rich chocolate and mocha. In the first third, there are also notes of Roman anise and floral notes that set it apart from the others.
In the second third, more earthy and leathery flavors emerge, which continue to blend well with the sweet notes throughout the cigar. In the last third, mild notes of black pepper emerge, while the other flavors darken with rich espresso undertones.
The Siglo V is one of the more expensive options in the Siglo series, which puts it more in line with the cost you would expect from a Cohiba (for more affordable cigars in this range, see the Siglo I or Siglo II).
The consistent quality makes it a good buy, especially considering how long each one can be smoked. The Siglo V gets better with time and can be enjoyed for up to ten years with proper storage in a humidor.
This cigar is a great choice for enthusiasts who like to keep a collection of quality, vintage cigars for special occasions. It also makes a great gift for friends and colleagues.
The consistent quality of the Siglo V also makes it a suitable cigar for many different occasions.
