If you are a cigar enthusiast, you may have heard of the Partagas de Partagas No. 1, a limited edition cigar released by the famous Cuban brand Partagas.
The cigar is a tribute to the founder of the brand, Don Jaime Partagas, who started his cigar business in Havana in 1845.
History of Partagas de Partagas No. 1:
Partagas is one of the oldest and most prestigious Cuban cigar brands on the market. The factory was founded by:
Don Jaime Partagas
A Spanish immigrant who arrived in Cuba in 1831. He founded his cigar factory in 1845, located at 520 Industrial Avenue in Havana, where he still operates. Don Jimmy was a pioneer in the cigar industry, as he experimented with different methods of fermenting and aging tobacco leaves. He also established his own tobacco plantations in the region:
Vuelta Abajo
which is considered the best source of Cuban tobacco.
Don Jimmy was also known for his generosity and charm, as he entertained his customers and friends with music and parties in his factory. He was also an avid traveler, visiting many countries and regions to learn more about tobacco cultivation and trade. He was assassinated in 1868 by a rival who was jealous of his success.
After his death, his son José Partagas took over the business and continued his father’s legacy. He faced many challenges, such as the Ten Years’ War (1868-1878), a rebellion against Spanish colonial rule in Cuba. José Partagas died in 1896 and the brand was sold to various owners until it was nationalized by the Cuban government after the Cuban Revolution in 1959.
Partagas is known for producing captivating cigars with rich and complex flavors. Some of its most famous vitolas include the D Series No. 4, Lusitanias and 8-9-8. The brand also releases limited edition cigars each year that are sought after by collectors and connoisseurs.
One of these limited editions is the
Partagas de Partagas No. 1
which was released to celebrate the brand’s 172nd anniversary. It is a Cervantes cigar, meaning it has a long, slender shape with a conical head. It is 165 mm (6.5 inches) long and has a ring gauge of 43 (17.07 mm). In boxes of 25 cigars, each is wrapped in a delicate red band with gold lettering.
The Partagas de Partagas No. 1 is made with premium tobacco leaves from the region:
Vuelta Abajo
which are carefully selected and aged for at least two years before being rolled by experts. The wrapper is dark brown in color with some veining and texture but is smooth. The filler and binder are also from Vuelta Abajo, giving the cigar a consistent and balanced composition.
This cigar has a medium to full strength, with a rich and complex flavor that evolves throughout the smoking experience. It initially offers notes of wood, leather, earth and spice with a hint of sweetness and creaminess. It then introduces some roasted nuts, coffee and cocoa with a hint of pepper and citrus. The final third offers more intensity and complexity with notes of cedar, leather, dark chocolate and dried fruit.
The cigar has a good draw and burn, producing a thick, aromatic smoke. The ash is dense and firm, and is grayish-white in color. The cigar lasts for about an hour and a half and offers a satisfying smokiness.
